Great tool! After looking at a handful of this design, I chose this one because it works for both metric and standard. And boy does it work. I saw that one of the reviewers broke one, and maybe it was defective, but I can tell you: if it's hard to turn you have it on too tight. Just tighten it down with two fingers and no strain and it'll do the rest. Faster and easier than thread restoring files, more universal, and easier than dies. It's only shortcoming is that it's not going to work on really short studs - you probably need 3/8"-1/2" of thread length to work with.
Works fantastically. Though, on much larger bolts/studs, make sure the engagement knob isn't overly tightened as it may dig into the root of the bolt's thread. Periodically loosen, then tighten until slightly snug, then continue winding bolt through.
It repaired the threads on a bolt post-grinding like a champ. I gave this tool a try after reading some negative reviews, and glad I did. Very handy addition to my tool chest.
I damaged the threads on a ball joint. Unless I could repair them I would have to buy an entire control arm. This gadget had the threads restored in a couple of minutes. The retaining nut went on like new and for less than fifty dollars I saved several hundred dollars for a new part. This item does exactly what it promises and is simple to use. Every toolbox should have one of these in it.
Bought a garden cart and all was good until the last nut wouldn't go on because of a bad thread on the axle rod. This little gadget saved the day...solved the problem and avoided having to disassemble to return to the store. Great item!
